The Apayao State College (ASC) has officially commenced the MOA signing and launching of the Bamboo Project, titled “Piloting the Impact of Climate Change and Provision of Sustainable Livelihoods through the Establishment of Bamboo Plantation Industry in the Province of Apayao.” This initiative marks a significant collaboration between the different CARSUCs, ASC, and Farmer-Cooperators from four adopted barangays in Apayao, namely Upper Atok in Flora (June 10, 2024) San Juan in Santa Marcela(June 10, 2024), Lydia in Pudtol (June 14, 2024), and Zumigui in Luna (June 18, 2024).

The primary objective of this activity is to address the pressing issue of climate change while simultaneously providing sustainable livelihood opportunities through the establishment of a bamboo plantation industry in the province of Apayao. The Barangay Captains of the four adopted barangays have warmly welcomed this initiative, recognizing its importance to the local communities.

Dr. Maria Christina Z. Manicad, the ASC Bamboo project management team Leader introduced the project, highlighting its objectives and scope to all stakeholders present. Key representatives from the four LGUs, farmer-cooperators, and barangays expressed their support and commitment to the project, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the community.

A significant milestone was reached during the event with the signing of a collaborative agreement among the stakeholders, formalizing their partnership and dedication to the project’s success. The ceremony also included a symbolic planting of bamboo seedlings, signifying the beginning of the project’s implementation and the collective effort towards a more sustainable future for the province of Apayao.

The ASC Bamboo Project holds great promise in not only combating climate change but also in creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods that will benefit the local communities and contribute to the overall development of Apayao.
